sirius, along with our sister program for college students, sea|mester, owns and operates two traditionally rigged schooners; s/y argo and s/y ocean star. both vessels were designed and constructed with safety and trainability in mind first and foremost. as a result, they are perfect training vessels for anyone looking to learn or advance their skills as they ply the world's oceans.

 

 

S/Y Argo was completed in June 2006. Her design is the product of the close collaboration between Langan Design Associates of Newport Rhode Island, Sirius and Sea|mester. Langan Design Associates are renowned for creating some of the world's most impressive sailing yachts. This mastery of yacht design coupled with thirty years of experience in setting to sea with trainees, has produced a vessel that is incredibly safe, capable and beautiful.

 

Argo is a two-masted staysail schooner that measures 112-ft overall and accommodates twenty six trainee crew and seven professional instructors on ocean voyages. She is certified and inspected by the British Maritime and Coastguard Agency as a Category “0” vessel, allowing her unrestricted operation in the world's oceans. Sailing under our flag, Argo circumnavigates the globe offering the chance to the crew to achieve a range of training and/or personal goals.

S/Y Ocean Star was launched in 1991 as a school ship for Ocean Navigator Magazine. Over the years, she sailed the waters between Canada and the Caribbean, enabling students to learn navigation and nautical skills. After an extensive refit in 1999, Ocean Star began a new life serving to train students and young adults on the waters she knows so well. Since she began sailing under our flag, Ocean Star has safely provided over 400 trainee crew with the unique opportunity to live, learn and sail among the diverse islands of the Caribbean Archipelago.

 

Ocean Star is a two-masted schooner with an overall length of eighty-eight feet. Accommodations are provided for sixteen crew and four professional staff. She is maintained to the highest standards of safety and is certified and inspected by the British Maritime and Coastguard Agency for ocean service.
